Developer Settings

Developer Settings

This page controls function that allow the developer to test and to "keep an eye" on the site during development and once the site goes live.

Settings overview:

  • Developer Email: Debugging and error emails will go to this address - if not defined, emails will go to the Company Email. Enter an email address where you want any error notifications send as they occur. This feature provides the developer with valuable error information in real time. For a live site this allows the developer know there was a problem, many times before the merchant does and at the same time as the user.
  • Test Mode On: For development purposes only, bypasses some global warnings and functions to allow for easier setup. For example this will eliminate the reminder warnings to change the admin password and emails on the front end. Be absolutely sure to uncheck this for final testing and before the site goes live.
  • Delete Test Data: If enabled, the developer will see a menu option to Delete Test Data, and the cleanup script will be enabled. This will allow the developer to clear out all the "junk" test products, customers, orders and the like before going live. It is highly recommended that once the site is live that this be unchecked to disable it and to prevent accidentally deleting real data.

Primary things to keep in mind:
These setting are for the developer to use to make testing the site easier and cleaning up unwanted test data very easy. You may choose to leave the developer email in place for a while after the site goes live just to keep informed of any issues that may occur. The other two settings should definitely be disabled prior to going live with the site.
